Welcome to Rabat

Though many mistake Casablanca as the capital of Morocco, the capital is actually the city of Rabat. Just a few hours north of Casablanca, Rabat looks out through ancient ramparts on to the Atlantic ocean. The political center of Morocco, Rabat is home to Morocco's King and military as well as many of the foreign embassies. A great escape from the cities of Casablanca and Marrakech, Rabat is a hassle-free, laid-back city with beautiful Moroccan architecture and many fabulous museums to visit. In contrast to Marrakech, Rabat's medina and souq are usually uncrowded and slow-paced. The shop owners are friendly, but rarely pushy.
