Ouarzazate
Welcome to Ouarzazate
Known in Morocco as the little Hollywood, Ouarzazate and its surrounding area has been the scene for famous hollywood films such as The Mummy, Alexander, Gladiator, Lawrance of Arabia, and many others. Ourzazate itself is a city most inhabited by Berbers, and is the largest town in saharan Morocco. Ouarzazate itself is not much more then a crossroads for those entering and exiting the Sahara. It even began as a stop for African traders heading North to larger Moroccan cities and Europe. What makes it special is the area that surrounds it. Ancient Kasbahs and Berber cities seem to come from the Atlas Mountains themselves, surrounded by lush palm forests whose green is a vivid contrast to the red earth. It is from Ouarzazate that you can travel to such places as the Dades Valley, Merzouga, and Zagora, which are some of the most spectacular sights in the Moroccan Sahara.
